The Performance of OCTG Pipes

The performance of OCTG pipes includes anti-collapse, anti-corrosion and perforation performance.
(1) Anti-collapse performance
With the increase of drilling depth, the pressure of oil pipes and casings in oil and gas wells increases, especially in deep wells, ultra-deep wells and plasticity running ground such as rock salt, salt gypsum, shale and soft rock ground. When the external pressure exceeds a certain limit, the OCTG pipe body will produce groove-like or elliptical deformation, which is called the collapse of the OCTG pipe.
 
(2) Corrosion resistance
Some oil and gas fields contain a large number of corrosive media such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and chloride ions, so the requirement of anti-corrosion is put forward for OCTG pipes, including anti-sulfide stress corrosion, anti-CO2 and Cl-corrosion performance. The corrosion resistance of oil pipes and casing is mainly related to the chemical composition of the steel and the residual stress value of the steel pipe. Reducing the content of non-metallic inclusions and harmful elements in the steel, increasing the anti-corrosion elements such as Cr and Ni, reducing the residual stress in the steel pipe, and increasing the yield ratio of the steel pipe are all conducive to improving the corrosion resistance of oil pipes and casing.
 
(3) Perforation
Perforation is required at the oil extraction to allow crude oil to flow into the casing from the designated oil-bearing oil sands. For this reason, the oil layer casing is required to have good perforation performance; when the perforation without the gun body is used especially, higher perforation performance of the casing is required. The perforation performance of the casing is obtained through perforation tests. The casing to be tested is suspended in the simulated well, and a series of shaped perforating charges with a certain number, a certain distance and different directions are hung in the casing. Then perform perforation. After perforation, if there are no cracks around each hole of the test casing, the performance of the perforation is evaluated as good; if there are a few small cracks around each hole, but the number and length do not exceed the requirements of the technical conditions, then the perforation is ok. If the number or length of cracks around each hole exceeds the specified limit, especially the cracks between two adjacent holes, the perforation is not accepted. There are also requirements on the amount of expansion after perforation, the height of the inner and outer burrs around the hole for the casing of the oil field.
